Does the R.M. require a Business Licence? 
Yes the R.M. requires all Contractors to have a valid Licence to operate int the R.M. All licences expire on December 31 in the year that they are issued. Licences may be obtained online in the forms section of this website or at the R.M. office in Christopher Lake..

What are the steps to demolishing my old cabin? 
1. Submit and application to demolish along with a development permit to the Development Officer.

2. A 7 - 10 day permit review process takes place to determine compliance with municipal bylaws &     adherence to other government agency regulations.

3. Permits may be issued subject to the payment of prescribed fees and deposits.

4. Removal of building can only commence when permit is approved. Proceeding without authorization will      result in project delays and monetary penalties.

5. Property owner must contact the development officer upon completion of demolition to coordinate a final      inspection of the site by the building inspector.

6. Development officer will process a refund of the appropriate amount of the deposit once the written final      inspection report has been approved and completed.

What are the steps to getting a building permit?
(Non-permanent Foundation) (
 ie. decks, sheds ...)
1. Compete the required development permit and building permit application and submit to R.M. Office
     along with a site sketch showing the development as it relates to the property liner.

2. Development Officer initiates a 7 - 10 daye review process if all reuired information and fees are
     submitted. Incomplete applicatiions will be returned.

3. Permits will be issued by the Development Officer or Building Inspector as required once they are
     satisfied the proposed development completes with all municipal bylaws and regulations.

4. All projects may be subject to inspections to ensure compliance with submitted applications and
     municipal bylaws.

5. To avoid delays, and stop work orders, property owners must ensure all contractors working on the
     development are licensed pursuant to the Business License bylaw of the municipality.

6. No development to take place until all required permits have been obtained.

What are the steps to get a building permit? (permanent foundation)

1. Fill out the required development permit, building permit application, submit a preliminary sketch     diagram along with any other supporting documentation i.e. (drainage plan) to the municipal office.

2. All applications require a 7 - 10 day review process to ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and     regulations. Incomplete applications will be returned.

3. If approved, the Development Officer will issue a Development Permit upon payment of the prescribed     fees for the foundations or footings only of the proposed constructions or development.

4. Once foundation or footing construction is complete a real Property Report ( Surveyor's Certificate ) from     a licensed surveyor wiill be required to be submitted to the R.M. office to ensure proper location of     construction. The Development Officer will review for compliance and approval.

5. Building permit and plans will be reviewed to determine compliance with municipal bylaws &     regulations, subject to the payment of prescribed fees.

6. Periodic inspections at specific stage of construction will be conducted by the municipal inspector.

7. All property owners, in order to avoid unncessary delays with their project are to ensure that all     contractors working on the project are licensed with the municipality pursuant to the Business Licensing     bylaw.

8. No construction to take place until all required permits have been obtained.

Do I need a fire permit to burn on my property?
Yes, at certain times of the year. The R.M. does not issue burning permits. However you must contact a Sask Environment office for a permit so you may conduct a controlled burn. In Christopher Lake: 1-306-982-6250

How do I apply for a business license??
Business licenses are required by all persons, contractors or business operating within the municipality. The licenses are issued pursuant to the Business License Bylaw which can be viewed by clicking the Bylaw section of our webpage. To apply download the application form below and submit the completed application to the R.M. office for processing.

When do I need a building permit?
A building permit is required for any structural contruction or renovation. For new construction or expansion renovations, a Development Permit is required in advance of a building permit.
